Crystal Window Exhibit Ushers In Lunar New Year

Some of the items in the antique Chinese wooden window and door collection of Crystal Window & Door Systems President Thomas Chen on exhibit at Flushing Town Hall February 1 through 29 in celebration of the Lunar New Year.
Part of the personal art collection of Crystal Window & Door Systems President Thomas Chen will be the featured exhibit of the upcoming Lunar New Year Celebration at Flushing Town Hall. For the entire month of February, Chen's antique Chinese wooden window and door collection will be on display at the landmark cultural center in Flushing. Crystal will mark the Lunar New Year at Flushing Town Hall on February 9 with an invitation-only evening reception, highlighted with a performance by violinist Christopher Wong.

The Crystal antique Chinese wooden window and door collection is comprised of more than 100 original pieces preserved from various structures in Mainland China. Each piece is a work of art unto itself, exquisitely and intricately hand-carved with detailed scenery and traditional designs. Some pieces are several hundred years old. Information on the history of Chinese windows and doors as they relate to Chinese culture and philosophy accompanies the exhibit. "Most people would not consider building products works of art, but I was captivated by the beauty and craftsmanship of the wooden windows and doors I saw when I traveled in China," said Mr. Chen. "I am certain that exhibit visitors will be as thrilled to see these magnificent pieces as I am to share them with the public."

Crystal is the primary sponsor for the month-long festival at Flushing Town Hall, which includes the antique window and door exhibit, traditional music and dance performances, lectures, tea ceremonies and other cultural events designed to bring the essence of Asian culture to the community. "This display of unique and utilitarian art is a beautiful, visual way to recognize the Lunar New Year. This is definitely not the typical dragon and firecracker display so often associated with Chinese New Year celebrations," Chen declared.

The Antique Chinese Window and Door Exhibit sponsored by Crystal Window & Door Systems is open to the public February 1 through 29, Tuesday through Sunday, from noon to 5 p.m. Flushing Town Hall is located at 137-35 Northern Blvd., Flushing.
