LIRR Clears Trees
A copy of the following letter was received by the Gazette.
The Honorable Frank Padavan
89-39 Gettysburg Street
Bellerose, NY 11426
Dear Senator Padavan:

Thank you for your letter of November 26, 2007 on behalf of your constituent, Ms. Anne McNamee, regarding the LIRR's vegetation management program in the vicinity of the Douglaston station.

All tree trimming and cleanup of the right-of-way has been completed in the Douglaston area. Where feasible, we protected the natural barrier between the track area and residential homes that are adjacent to the Railroad. As a result of several meetings with you and community members, the LIRR has developed a plan of action with regard to residents' concerns. The following enhancements have been completed in the Douglaston area:

•Dead and diseased trees along our rightof way have been removed

•All tree trimming debris along our tracks has been removed

•All embankments were cleaned to promote growth of natural vegetation in the spring

•All graffiti was removed from the Douglaston Parkway overpass.

Please be assured that we will coordinate with your office for the replanting of track friendly evergreens during the spring season. We want to be a good neighbor, and we will continue to keep the lines of communication open on issues related to this endeavor.

Thank you again for bringing Ms. McNamee's concerns to my attention. If I can be of further assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Helena E. Williams
President
Long Island Rail Road
