York's Lady Cardinals Top City Tech, 55-43

Chiquita Greene (Brooklyn, NY/ Harry Van Arsdale) and Delores Maeweather (Jamaica, NY/ Campus Magnet) each had 15 points to lead the York College women's basketball team to a, 55-43, victory over New York City Tech on Friday night. With the victory, York improves to 5-11, 3- 3 in the CUNYAC.
Both teams struggled offensively in the first half. However York, was able to take a 25-21 lead into the locker room thanks to strong free-throw shooting (8-12) in the first half, while City Tech struggled from the free throw line, shooting only 45 percent (9-20).
In the second half, York improved in all aspects of the game, while City Tech continued to struggle. The Lady Cardinal defense forced 27 turnovers which they converted into 23 points. However, York still led by just one point, 37-36, with 7:45 to play. Then just over a minute later, a threepointer by Maimouna Dabo (Bamako, Mali/ Lycee Notre Dame du Niger) followed up by a lay-up by Greene and a jumper by Maeweather gave York an eight point lead with 6:26 to play. The Cardinals controlled the game from that point on. City Tech could only get as close as seven points the rest of the way.
Also contributing for York was Dabo who had nine points and Della Jean-Louis (Brooklyn, NY/ All-City Leadership) who grabbed 10 boards. Kemi Owoseni led
City Tech with 12 points. The Yellow Jackets fall to 3- 11, 1-5 in the CUNYAC with the loss.
