114th Pct. Names Top Cop And Supervisor Of The Year

On Wednesday, January 9, 114th Police Precinct Commanding Officer Inspector Brian McCarthy announced precinct's Cop of the Year and Supervisor of the Year awards for 2007.

Police Officer Stavroula (Stephanie) Choriatis, a member of the NYPD since 2000, was singled out for her achievements and for setting high standards that all officers at the precinct look to as their guide to doing their jobs as members of the NYPD every day. Choriatis was cited for making a record 91 arrests in 2007. Speaking both Greek and English, she has served as an ambassador to the largely Greek community located throughout Astoria, the community in which the 114th Precinct is located.

Sergeant Robert Gibson, Choriatis' partner, was very happy for his sidekick. "Most definitely deserving, She works hard every day," Gibson said.

Sergeant Joseph Corideo was named 2007 Supervisor of the Year. Corideo, who has been on the force since 1992, was selected for his ability to train new officers assigned to the 114th. McCarthy called Corideo an exceptional leader and by far one of the best 25 sergeants at the 114th Precinct. Corideo was singled out for addressing the bars, the conditions in the neighborhood and at Astoria Park, drag racing and "all of the things that have an effect on the quality of life in the community". He was on duty and unable to receive his award at the 3 p.m. ceremony. McCarthy presented it to him at 6 p.m., after his tour was over for the day.
