Borough-Wide Blotter Mob 'Hit'? Police sources said investigators are probing the December 28 stabbing of a Queens construction worker as a possible mob "hit." Vincenzo Orilia, 41, of Whitestone, was stabbed in the stomach at 5:45 p.m. on 150th Street, while he was trying to break up a fight between two men. Orilia's alleged attacker, Joseph Bonelli, 26, also of Whitestone, was later arraigned on assault, menacing, weapons possession and other charges. Bonelli was released on bail at the time of his arrest, awaiting sentencing in two cases where he pled guilty to weapons and other charges, authorities said. Bonelli was held in lieu of $500,000 bail on the stabbing charges. 110th Precinct Teens Nabbed In Attempted Robbery Police arrested a pack of teenagers on Christmas Eve who tried to mug a group of men on an Elmhurst street corner. Police said the victims were walking near 90th Street and 53rd Avenue at about 7:15 p.m. on December 24, where Daniel Ingram, 19, approached them. Ingram pulled a knife, punched one of the victims and tried to grab the victim's cellphone. Meanwhile, Jermaine Nish, 18, who pulled a gun and Moustapha Dioubate, 19, went after two other victims punching them in the face, according to police. Ingram, Dioubate and Nish are facing multiple counts of attempted robbery, assault and numerous other charges. 111th Precinct Little Neck's 1st Slaying Since '04 A man was found stabbed to death last week on a handball court in Little Neck - marking the first murder in the 111th Precinct since 2004. A passerby spotted the body of Domingo Hernandez, 35, at about 9:45 a.m. in the handball court at a park at Little Neck Parkway and 42nd Avenue, police said. Police sources said Hernandez was stabbed in the chest and torso and had slash marks on his face. Anyone with information on the murder is urged to call the CRIMESTOPPERS Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS. A $2,000 reward is being offered to anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect(s). Bayside Handyman, 93, Dies In Fire A 93-year-old Bayside handyman died on December 30 in a fire started by a faulty space heater plug in his home, fire officials said. A Fire Department spokesperson said firefighters removed the body of Ralph Mastro from his home shortly before 2 a.m. Mastro, who lived there for almost 60 years, was taken to North Shore University Hospital, where he died a short while later, officials said. Fire officials said there were no firefighters injured in the blaze, which started at about 1:25 a.m. and was brought under control about 40 minutes later. Neighbors said Mastro, a retired airplane parts mechanic, was still the neighborhood mechanic fixing stoves, alarm systems and appliances for everybody on the block. 115th Precinct Soccer Match Mayhem Police in Jackson Heights arrested four men on December 19 - part of a mob of unruly fans- who assaulted police officers and pelted them with flour in an altercation following a televised soccer game. More than 80 men spilled out of a bar at 79th Street and Roosevelt Avenue at about 10 p.m., screaming and shouting after the Colombian soccer match. When police arrived to disperse the crowd, Jonathan Escobar, 18, allegedly grabbed a bag of flour and flung it at a cop's head and then punched him. When a second officer moved in, Juan Maya, 21, started punching him while Andres Acuna, 24, and his brother Carlos, 20, threw more flour on them, police said. Escobar and Maya were charged with assault on a police officer, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. The Acuna brothers were charged with disorderly conduct. |
