114th Precinct Police Seek Three-Time Bank Robber

Police are asking the public's help in identifying and arresting a robber who has struck three times during December and January at banks in the 114th Precinct in Astoria.

The suspect is a black male between 5 feet, 7 inches and six feet tall, weighing over 200 pounds and wearing a black bubble coat, dark sweatshirt and blue jeans. On two occasions he passed a note and made verbal demands for U.S. currency, which he obtained all three times. He has also pretended to have a gun.

On December 18, the suspect was caught on camera robbing the Sovereign Bank at 24-28 34th Ave. Six days later, on Christmas Eve, he robbed the Alma Bank 28-31 31st St. and on Jan. 2, 2008, robbed the Bank of America at 19-50 37th St.

New Year's Eve, December 31, had one notable incident take place: at 33-00 Northern Blvd., a 30- year-old black female was arrested for criminal possession of a weapon after she threatened to kill a victim with a stun gun.

On New Year's Day 2008, a 24-year-old white female, a 29-year-old Asian female and two white males 23 and 32 years old were arrested for criminal nuisance and sale of an alcoholic beverage without a license after they were observed selling alcohol without a liquor license and creating a condition endangering the welfare of others. The incident took place at 37-06 36th St.

Also on Tuesday, January 1: • A 19-year-old black male was charged with resisting arrest, inciting a riot and disorderly conduct after he was seen yelling obscenities in public and causing a crowd to gather at 2-04 Astoria Blvd.

• A 21-year-old white male was charged with criminal possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of marijuana after he was found in possession of marijuana at 37-06 36th St.

• A 22-year-old Hispanic male was charged with disorderly conduct after he was seen yelling obscenities and causing a crowd to gather at 32nd Street and 31st Avenue.

• A 19-year-old Hispanic male was charged with criminal trespass and harassment after he banged on the front door of 34-32 28th St., causing the glass to break.

• A 45-year-old Hispanic male was charged with assault and harassment after he punched a victim in the face at 46th Street and 34th Avenue.

• A 49-year-old Asian male was charged with criminal mischief after he broke windows of a victim's residence at 23-82 28th St.

Wednesday, January 2:

• Two Hispanic females 15 and 25 years old were charged with robbery, criminal use of a firearm, criminal possession of stolen property and menacing after they displayed a firearm, forcibly removed a victim's property from her person and fled with her purse. The incident started at 29-11 Dorothy Pl. and ended at 31st Street and 36th Avenue.

• A 33-year-old Hispanic male was charged with criminal mischief, criminal possession of stolen property, petit larceny and possession of a hypodermic instrument after he broke into a victim's vehicle at 24-10 40th Ave. and stole the victim's GPS device from inside the vehicle.

Thursday, January 3:

• Four Asian males, two 40 years old, one 39 years old and one 44 years old were charged with trademark counterfeiting after they were found in possession of counterfeit NIKE sneakers at 24-10 40th Ave.

• A 40-year-old Indian male was charged with criminal diversion after he was found in possession of prescribed medication without identification or a prescription at Broadway and 31st Street.

Friday, January 4:

• Two white males 17 and 18 years old, an 18- year-old black male and a white and a Hispanic female, both 18 years old, were charged with criminal possession of marijuana after they were stopped at a vehicle checkpoint at Broadway and 31st Street and found in possession of marijuana.

• Upon execution of a search warrant at 41-12 10th Street under the direct supervision of 114th Precinct Commanding Officer Inspector Brian McCarthy, two black females 51 and 57 years old were found in possession of narcotics, drug paraphernalia, cocaine and marijuana and were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal use of drug paraphernalia, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of marijuana.

• Upon execution of a search warrant at 38-76 10th St. under the direct supervision of Inspector Brian McCarthy, a 46-year-old black male was found running a gambling operation. The suspect was also wanted on an active warrant. He was charged with running a gambling operation.

• A 36-year-old male was charged with menacing, criminal mischief, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct after he was seen obstructing pedestrian traffic, destroyed the counter of an establishment at 42-21 Broadway and attempted to strike a victim in the head with a piece of wood.

• Two black males 12 and 13 years old and a 13-year-old black female were charged with making graffiti after they were observed making graffiti with a marker on the walls of I.S. 126, 31-51 21st St.
