Hails Airline Bill
To The Editor:

It is with elation that I write and share my thoughts with fellow readers of the Gazette.

I applaud our Assemblymember Michael Gianaris for his advocacy and devotion and concern in passing the [Airline] Passenger's Bill of Rights. All airline passengers have the right to safe, secure flights, with full communication and knowledge of what is happening to them, and must be given food, bathroom facilities, water and must not be subjected to sitting in a closed-door airliner on runways for long periods of time. This is a violation of their basic rights and freedom of movement.

Airlines are lacking the human interest and personal caring and are too busy advertising and charging large sums of money for their flights and the quality of service given to passengers is decreasing.

I also applaud our Council Public Safety Chairman, Peter Vallone Jr. for his advocacy concerning the making of noose crimes a felony. The noose represents racial hatred and bigotry, brutality and violation of basic human rights of dignity. Both men earn the title of Legislators of the Year. They have done so much for so many. Thanks to the Gazette for publishing articles that affected our lives during the past year. A happy, healthy year to all. Cynthia Groopman Long Island City
