Mets Host Holiday Party
The New York Mets hosted a holiday party for students from schools in each of the five boroughs: P.S. 111 in Long Island City, P.S. 55 and P.S. 132, Brooklyn, P.S. 30 in The Bronx, P.S. 19, Manhattan and P.S. 31, Staten Island at the green glass CitiCorp Building in Long Island City recently.
At the party, New York Mets pitchers Mike Pelfrey and John Maine dressed up as Santa and a helper and distributed presents to every child in attendance. The newest addition to the Mets' roster, closer Francisco Rodriguez, known to the baseball world as K-Rod, joined Pelfrey and Maine in the gift giving and all three listened to the students' rendition of Christmas carols. Mets mascot Mr. Met beamed approvingly as he oversaw the festivities.
P.S. 111 students and teachers alike were all smiles at having a chance to meet Pelfrey, Maine and Rodriguez. "For a first grader, it is very exciting," a teacher at P.S. 111 said. "They were looking forward to it. A lot of them are Mets fans. A lot of them live in the area but have never been to the CitiCorp Building before. It is a day they will never forget."
