Garden School Lady Griffins Lose To Dwight, 52-41
(above) Garden School Senior Captain Tatiana Ambarsom, No. 42, scored 17 points against the Elisabeth Irwin School in Manhattan in a non-league game on December 8. On Thursday, December 11, Garden School hosted the Girls' Independent Schools Athletic League (G.I.S.A.L.) two-time defending champions, Dwight School from Manhattan. The Lady Griffins made a valiant effort, but came out of the battle on the losing end, 52-41, in their initial league game of the 2008-09 season. Garden fell behind by as many as 17 points before mounting a fourth-quarter attack. Sophomore center Claudia Kostich made a baseline jumper and freshman Vitoria Vogel connected on a 3- pointer to close the gap to 9 with just under two minutes remaining. However, Dwight held on for the 11-point victory. Dwight's Toni Smith led all scorers with 21 points and Ebeni Marquez and Seko Kovacevic contributed 10 and 9 points, respectively, for the Manhattanites. The Queens ball club's offensive attack was led by Kostich (15 points), Daniela Triana (nine points) and Vogel (nine points).

After splitting the two games, Garden School remained at the .500 mark with an overall record of 4-4, and is 0-1 in the G.I.S.A.L. standings.
