Garden School Lady Griffins Win Home Season Opener

Ye s! The Lady Griffins of Garden School, Jackson Heights posed before taking the court and scoring a 34-11 victory over Lycee Francais de New York (LFNY), Manhattan. On Monday, November 17, the Garden School Lady Griffins varsity basketball squad, hailing from Jackson Heights, opened up the 2008-09 campaign with an impressive 34-11 victory against Lycee Francais de New York (LFNY) from Manhattan. Both ball clubs struggled offensively in the first stanza, with the Queens team holding a small advantage of 4-0. During the second quarter, Garden's attack kicked into gear, with five different players each notching a basket to increase the home team's lead by a margin of 18-4. After intermission, the Lady Griffins team defense stifled the opposition en route to the team's first win. Garden's scoring leaders were senior Daniela Triana and freshman Victoria Vogel, with nine points apiece. Other major contributors were Tatiana Ambarsom (six points, 10 steals.), Claudia Kostich (six points, 8 rebounds) and Nadia Ambarsom (4 points).
