Assemblymember Michael Gianaris (DAstoria Long Island City) met with U.S. Senator and Democratic nominee for President Barack Obama in Chicago on September 22 at an event attended by national Greek- American leaders.

In addition to Gianaris, guests included Phil Angelides, former California state treasurer and 2006 Democratic nominee for governor of California, and Alexi Giannoulias, current Illinois State

Treasurer.

"If the failures of the last eight years taught us anything, it is that elections like this are critically important for those who care about America's place in the world and the livelihood of our fellow citizens," Gianaris said. "I am proud to stand together with some of our nation's most distinguished leaders to elect Barack Obama and bring much-needed change to our country."

Gianaris is a leader in the New York state Democratic Party and has been referred to as a rising star in New York state. In 2006, he served as the finance chair of the New York state Democratic Party and oversaw historic victories in that election season.
