Abuse Allegation KOs Ft. Totten Name Change
      An alleged incident of sexual abuse eight years ago resurfaced last week at Community Board 7, ending a proposal to rename the new visitors' center at Fort Totten for Jack Fein. Fein died on March 28 at age 91. In February, 2000, Fein, then 83 years old, was arrested and charged with sexual abuse of a 10-year-old boy.

Manolas Is Astoria/LIC Kiwanis Man Of The Year
      The Astoria/Long Island City Kiwanis will honor Panagiotis Manolas, M.D., chief of surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital of Queens, as Man of the Year on September 25. Manolas has launched several initiatives that have brought a range of screenings, diagnostic and treatment services to women with breast cancer, especially those who are un- or underinsured.

      Maria Sacchetti, age 17, daughter of Frank and Laura Sacchetti of Astoria, has been selected to represent New York at the 2008 Miss American Teen Pageant. As the New York Teen, Sacchetti will attend the National Pageant for her age group in Florida and Disney World during the week of Thanksgiving 2008.

      On Saturday, September 20, Elmhurst Hospital will conduct low-cost prostate cancer screenings from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its Community Health Center, 41st Avenue at 80th Street—register in the first-floor lobby.       If you see a crook committing a crime and have a cellphone, you can snap a picture and email it to the NYPD (New York Police Department) to help them catch the bad guys. Eyewitnesses who catch crimes in progress can send photos or video to the NYPD's new, "Real Time Crime Center", where police will use the images to catch suspects and crack cases.
