Vallone: End Pit Bull Attacks
      City Councilmember Peter F. Vallone Jr. is working with city agencies to investigate a pit bull attack in Astoria last Friday, September 12, that killed a dog and injured a woman. Although the police responded to the scene after neighbors complained of the attack, the dog was not located at the time and little has been done about the matter since.

Cracking Down On Cigarette Smugglers, Internet Cig Sales
      Congress last week passed a bill that provides new tools to law enforcement authorities to crack down on tobacco smugglers and illicit tobacco sales over the Internet. The legislation sponsored by Congressmember Anthony Weiner, also makes it a felony to sell tobacco in violation of any state law.

McCain Closes On Obama In NYS Poll; Gives GOP New Hope In Nov. 4 Elections
      A shift of women and Jewish voters has brought John McCain within five points of Barack Obama among New York state voters, according to the latest Siena College poll. Democrat Obama had led Republican McCain by 51 to 33 percent in a Siena poll in June, but the September poll figures released on Monday had Obama ahead by only five points (46 to 41 percent).
