Astoria/LIC Kiwanis Honors Cops, Firefighters

Vallone Jr. On Wednesday, June 25 the Kiwanis Club of Astoria/Long Island City held its annual Police & Fire Awards dinner at Ponticello Ristorante. Antonio Meloni was chairman of this event and Linda Perno was co-chair.

Six awards were presented: to Sergeant Steve Tomasulo and Detective Jacqueline Keating of the 114th Police Precinct, Police Officers Juan Toro and Joseph Kohart of the 108th Precinct, and to New York City Firefighter Matthew Canberg, assigned to Ladder 154 and Firefighter Robert O'Neill, assigned to Ladder 163. Representatives of state Senator George Onorato and Assemblymember Michael Gianaris attended the ceremonies, along with City Councilmember Peter F. Vallone Jr., and Kiwanis Club of Astoria/Long Island City President-Elect Paul A. Vallone. The representatives and the two Vallones presented citations to the awardees as guests and Kiwanis members looked on.

First Central Savings Bank Board Chairman Joseph Pistilli sponsored the event. Christine Lolas of First Central Saving Bank addressed the audience. The Kiwanis Club of Astoria/Long Island City expressed its appreciation of Pistilli for his continued support.
