McDonald's, WFAN Kick Off Monday Quarterback Game

Hundreds of Astoria residents joined sports fans from around the tri-state area to have breakfast at McDonald's, 31-67 Steinway St., Astoria with former Jets star Joe Klecko and former Giants star Harry Carlson. The two were joined by WFAN morning talk show hosts of the "Boomer and Carton Show", Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton, to kick off "McDonald's Monday Morning Quarterback".
Beginning September 8, listeners can call in to the Boomer and Carton Show on Monday mornings and offer their comments about the weekend's Giants or Jets games. The listener with the best commentary will win a Slingbox Pro and be named WFAN's "McDonald's Monday Morning Quarterback" for the week. At the end of the 17-week program, every "McDonald's Monday Morning Quarterback" will be entered in a drawing for the grand prize, the ultimate fan's dream, a trip to Tampa for the Big Weekend, courtesy of McDonald's and WFAN.

Photos Dan Miller DMD Images Some of the hundreds of breakfast restaurant visitors included Luisa Inga (31), mother of three-year-old Jonathan, who has called Astoria home for the last nine years, Sharon Kaufman, a lifelong resident of Astoria who wanted to get autographs for her grandchild, and John Briscion, an Astoria resident who loves football and listening to the "Boomer and Carton" show every weekday morning. Luiz Tito (Corona), Lori Jimenez (Astoria) and Ruth Mairena (Astoria) excitedly took a photo with Ronald McDonald.
Tom Shortes, an MTA bus driver, was thrilled to meet Klecko and Carson. Julissa Garcia and Rosa Villavord, both from Astoria, joined the group for free breakfast and a chance to get autographs from the stars. Jacob Rappaport came from Brooklyn and Willie McCoy traveled all the way from Newark, New Jersey to participate in this special event.
"McDonald's is very excited to participate in the 'Monday Morning Quarterback' program with two great sports broadcasting personalities, Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton," Paul Hendel, president of the McDonald's New York Tri-State Area Owners/Operators Association, said. "McDonald's breakfast is the perfect companion for the 'Boomer and Carton in the Morning' show and a touchdown for your tastebuds."
The MVPs of this event were Klecko, former defense lineman for the New York Jets, and Carson, former team captain of the New York Giants. The first 75 fans at the kickoff party received free breakfast and Premium Roast Coffee from McDonald's and had the opportunity to huddle with the football stars. Fans who attended the breakfast party will be entered into a drawing to win a flat-screen TV.
Prior to the event Michael Giunta, a McDonald's owner and operator, said, "The breakfast party to kick off 'Monday Morning Quarterback' is going to be an awesome event for McDonald's and sports fans. I am looking forward to having these two football greats in my store and I will definitely be tuned in to the 'McDonald's Monday Morning Quarterback' promotion."
