Spirit Of Olympic Games Uplifts Us All
      On Friday, August 8, 10,500 athletes from around the world will gather in Beijing, China to compete in 302 events in 28 sports at the 29th Olympiad. No matter what corner of the world they hail from, all will have one objective in mind: to perform as well and honorably as they can and in so doing distinguish the sports they play, the countries that sent them and themselves.

Bike Lanes Great Idea
      To The Editor: I think [bike lanes on Queens Boulevard are] a great idea! Nothing has been done to improve Queens Boulevard since 2001, when they lengthened some lights, put up scary signs and installed fences to prevent pedestrians from jaywalking. Instead of more fences, why not more and better crosswalks, a bike lane and improved medians with actual, living trees?

Bikes Are The Future
      To The Editor: I support the redesign of Queens [Boulevard] to allow more time for pedestrians to cross and accommodate the growing numbers of bicycles on the road. Many are turning to bicycles as a transportation mode for its modest cost, easy maintenance and health benefits.

      To The Editor: Reading about a law by the city council to remove plastic bags from use is ridiculous. If a dent could be made [it] is to remove all heavy milk and plastic containers and so many other items too numerous to mention, and that won't happen.

Willets Point Plan Has Multiple Benefits
      Since 1957, I have been very much aware of the area in Queens known as Willets Point. Today, I believe that its development is an integral part of the economic growth of our borough. Willets Point is shaped like a triangle, but that has not stopped supporters and opponents of its proposed development from squaring off with each other.
