To The Editor:

Recently, I visited the Museum of American Finance in Lower Manhattan. One of its showcases features the following quotation by Bob Hope: "A bank is a place that will lend you money if you can prove that you don't need it." It seems to me that many American banks were unaware of this Bob Hope quote. Just look at the foreclosure crisis!
