Tennis Tournament Set For USTA Nat'l Tennis Center
The 21st annual Mayor's Cup All- Scholastic Tennis Tournament, organized by the New York Junior Tennis League (NYJTL) and hosted by the USTA Billie Jean King National Center in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, begins Saturday, May 31 and runs through Sunday, June 8 at the USTA Tennis Center. The tournament is the largest scholastic tennis event in the country, with more than 600 participants from public, parochial and private middle and high schools in New York City. Admission to this event is free of charge and tickets are not required.
The Mayor's Cup All Scholastic Tennis Championships is the premier event for New York City scholastic tennis players. The event is sponsored by the New York Junior Tennis League, USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, Group Health Insurance (GHI), Con Edison and Specialized Marketing Group, Inc.
The New York Junior Tennis League (NYJTL) provides free tennis and educational programs to New York City youth, reaching more than 100,000
children each year. The prog
rams encompass all skill levels and can be found in a variety of urban settings, including school gyms, schoolyards, community centers and parks.
The Arthur Ashe Educational Guidance Program, under the direction of the NYJTL, offers a variety of services to students in middle schools and high schools in the five boroughs of New York City. The program assists students in selecting high schools, offers SAT preparation and continues to help students gain college admission and financial aid. NYJTL is also the beneficiary of the GHI Bronx Tennis Classic presented by Panasonic, a $100,000 Men's and Women's USTA Pro Circuits Event. For more information, visit www.nyjtl.org.
