More than 200 students attending high schools throughout Queens gathered in the Borough President's Conference Room to hear speakers at the Queens Health Coalition Teen Convention recently. The Queens Health Coalition, which links quality health care with underserved communities in Queens, hosted a Teen Convention to promote healthy lifestyles among teens. More than 200 students from high schools throughout the borough met in the Borough President's Conference Room at Borough Hall to hear speakers on issues that included: Dream Careers, Making Positive Social Choices, Healthy Eating, Drug and Alcohol Abuse, Teen Pregnancy and Intimate Partner Violence. Free box lunches, giveaways and music from a popular radio station helped to make the event one of valuable advice, good food and lots of fun.

"The students showed real interest and a desire to learn the social and health options that exist for them," Phyllis Shafran, Queens Health Coalition executive director, declared. "Whether it was a healthcare professional who was giving them expert advice or just a participant speaking from the heart, it was evident that these youngsters wanted to know their choices. They seem to intuitively know that healthy living is better living and we were delighted to help them get there."
