In Annual Report, Marshall Hails Queens As 'Strong In Spirit'
      Queens Borough President Helen Marshall, starting her seventh year in office, stated in her annual State of the Borough address yesterday at Queens College that the state and spirit of the borough are strong, and then proceeded to prove it by reading off a 55 page-long list of programs covering all phases of life in Queens.

Arts Festival Marks Charter School's 5th Anniversary
      Our World Neighborhood Charter School (OWNCS) celebrated its fiveyear anniversary December 19 with a Winter Arts Festival. An Assembly proclamation to commemorate the school's anniversary was presented by Assemblymember Michael Gianaris, during the opening ceremony. City Councilmember Eric Gioia cut the ribbon for the visual arts exhibition.

Steinway Street Store Destroyed In Blaze
      A fire in a commercial building at 28-25 Steinway St. last Friday injured one civilian and seven firefighters and destroyed a cellular phone store and a jewelry store that shared space with it as well as leaving the families that occupied the apartments above homeless.

Vincenzo Orilia, 41, of Whitestone, was stabbed in the stomach at 5:45 p.m. on 150th Street, while he was trying to break up a fight between two men.

Stranger Saves A Life With Heimlich Maneuver
      An anonymous stranger kept a 47-year-old Queens man from choking to death on December 30. Fire officials said a stranger who used the Heimlich maneuver to force food from the victim's trachea gave the victim back his life. The victim, who in the past had suffered a stroke, is a familiar character along 36th Avenue in Long Island City.
