Giuliani Campaign Interrupted By Brief Hospital Stay

As the Gazette went to press last Friday, under its holiday schedule, it was learned that Rudy Giuliani had interrupted his campaign schedule after being hospitalized briefly by flu-like symptoms the preceding Wednesday.

After being released from a St. Louis hospital, returning to New York City, and appearing to be well as he spoke with reporters, he stated he would take several days off before resuming campaigning.

The episode coincided with the release of a new national poll which showed that Giuliani had lost his clear lead over the Republican field of challengers and was now tied for the lead in the race for the Republican nomination with former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.- John Toscano
