Manhole Fire On 34th Ave.
At around 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 19, a manhole near the intersection of 34th Avenue and 41st Street spewed smoke, bringing police, firefighters and Consolidated Edison emergency crews to the scene. Unofficial sources speculated that ice melting chemicals and meltwater had shorted out wiring and caused the explosion.
