Spiritual Gifts Are Best Too much publicity has been given to the material aspects of the holiday season, Christmas and Chanukah. To me, the true meaning of these holidays [is] the giving of spiritual gifts, namely a person's time in volunteerism and helping others, becoming an organ donor and giving the gift of life, being kind, loving, honest, and promoting peace and understanding and brotherhood and sisterhood. In addition, I, too, am dismayed that the style nowadays is to say "Happy Holidays" and eliminate the greetings and wishes of the actual holidays themselves. It is not offensive to be proud of one's heritage. If all of us remembered the true meaning and spirit of these holidays, what a wonderful world it would truly be. I wish all of the readers of the Gazette a happy, healthy Chanukah and Christmas. I must thank the Gazette for its gift throughout the year of bringing us news of our community. I applaud all who diligently work to produce this wonderful publication. Cynthia Groopman Long Island City |
