Santa Claus Is Coming To Town The Central Astoria Local Development Coalition will welcome Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus as they make their first visit to the Astoria area this year on Friday, November 30 at 4 p.m. The couple will arrive in an antique vehicle at the intersection of Steinway Street and Broadway, where they will pose for pictures with area youngsters, give each child a free book as a pre-holiday present, and join in the traditional lighting of the holiday tree. Parents are encouraged to bring cameras to capture this wonderful holiday moment. Santa's arrival is sponsored by the Central Astoria Local Development Coalition (CALDC) in conjunction with the Steinway Street Business Improvement District, the Broadway- Astoria Merchants & Professionals Association, the 30th Avenue Business Association and the 36th Avenue Merchants with the cooperation of the Queens Borough Public Library. Santa's visit also ushers in the holiday shopping season for Astoria. Shop Astoria for the holidays. Most stores are open late and on Sunday now through Christmas for shopping convenience. This event is funded in part by City Councilmember Peter Vallone Jr. through a grant from the New York City Department of Small Business Services. SANTA ARRIVES ON BROADWAY DECEMBER 5 Santa Claus will make a special appearance at Broadway and 36th Street on Wednesday, December 5 at 4 p.m., when the Broadway-Astoria Merchants and Professionals Association, in conjunction with Most Precious Blood Roman Catholic Church, hosts the dedication of the Broadway Christmas Tree and Nativity display. Carolers from the Most Precious Blood School Choir will be featured at this festive occasion. Candy canes will be distributed. Parents are reminded to bring cameras for a wonderful holiday photo opportunity. The event is sponsored by Broadway- Astoria Merchants & Professionals Association and Most Precious Blood R.C.
