Greek American Homeowners Annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner
Maloney Lends A Helping Hand: Congressmember Carolyn Maloney (second from r.) joined members of the Greek American Homeowners Association in serving the group's traditional Thanksgiving Day dinner free to any and all comers at association headquarters on 31st Street in Astoria. "I am so happy to join this wonderful group on this important day. They do something great!" Maloney exclaimed.
Thanksgiving meals were either served at the association's headquarters at 23-49 31st St. or delivered to hundreds of individuals and families. For the past 18 years the organization has helped provide Thanksgiving Day dinners to more than 1,000 families. Association Member George Fakiris began the food giveaway in memory of his father, Constantinos; after his mother died several years ago, he now makes substantial contributions to the effort in memory of both parents. Other members also contribute substantially, in both money and time.
The Greek American Homeowners Association is the only such organization in the state of New York to own its own headquarters. At its monthly meetings the first week of every month, topics of interest to the entire community are discussed.
