Scholastic Holds Pajama Party For Hour Children

Bedtime for most children is a dependable ritual. Whether putting on pajamas and getting kissed goodnight, or snuggling into the crook of a parent's arm and having a story read aloud, the routines are about love, comfort and safety. But for some children there are no such rituals.

Scholastic Book Clubs and the Pajama Program on Wednesday, November 14 have teamed up to make bedtime a little bit more special for a group of New York City children.

To mark a book donation to the Pajama Program from Scholastic's "Classrooms Care" initiative, the two groups from 5 to 6:30 p.m. are holding a Pajama Party for a dozen kids from Hour Children, a Queens charity that provides services to the children of incarcerated mothers. The children will receive brand new PJs and books and participate in other activities at the party in the Scholastic Store.

Through "Classrooms Care", Scholastic Book Clubs donate 100 books to charity for every 100 books participating classrooms read across the country each year. Teachers participating in "Classrooms Care" will be on hand at the event to discuss the importance of teaching children to learn and give back at the same time.
