Report Old Graffiti To 311, Vandalism in Progress To 911 The 108th Police Precinct advises Gazette readers that graffiti vandalism can be reported in one of two ways. To report graffiti vandalism in progress, call the 911 emergency hotline. Get a description of the vandal or vandals, any type of transportation the vandal or vandals are using, including a license plate number, if possible, and the direction the vandal or vandals are taking as they leave. Relay all the information to the 911 operator, who will inform police. Do not attempt to apprehend the vandal or vandals- that is the job of the police. To report an act of graffiti vandalism that was done previously, call the 311 information number. Try to be as specific as possible with the date, time and location of the vandalism. Although such calls are considered non-priority, a police officer will come to the site to enter the vandalism into the official record. The 311 operator will assign a reference number to the report, which can be used to check on the status of the complaint. For more information, call the community affairs officer at your local police precinct. P.O. Yousef, the community affairs officer at the 108th Precinct, can be reached at 718-784-5426. |
