Assault

Police arrested a 32-year-old registered sex offender on October 3 after he used the Internet to lure an Indianapolis woman to his Holliswood apartment, where he raped and assaulted her for hours, police said.

The perpetrator, David Graham, met the 21-year-old woman at the Port Authority Bus Terminal on October 2 and took her to his apartment where he threatened to kill her if she didn't comply with his sexual demands. The attacks continued through the night until Graham left the apartment for a short while and the victim managed to escape to a neighbor's apartment and the neighbor called 911, according to the police.

Graham was recently released from prison after serving time for a 2001 sex assault conviction. He is facing charges of rape, sexual misconduct and criminal misconduct.

Armed Standoff In Flushing

A Flushing couple was arrested on October 4 after they held off police at gunpoint from their Geranium Avenue apartment.

Police were called to the apartment by neighbors, who reported hearing shots fired at about 4:10 p.m. When the officers arrived, they spotted Matthew Kushnick, 22, in a window of his first floor apartment brandishing what appeared to be a gun.

Neighbors told the police that Kushnick's girlfriend, Vicky Tsatsaron, 23, and another woman were in the apartment- the police called for backup from Queens Emergency Service and NYPD hostage negotiators.

Kushnick surrendered shortly after the backup teams and police recovered a pellet gun inside the apartment after the arrest.

Kushnick and Tsatsaron were arrested and charged with reckless endangerment and possession of a pellet gun.

'Baby-Seller' Busted

A 36-year-old Flushing woman was arrested on October 5 after she tried to sell her newborn to an undercover cop for $25,000, according to authorities.

Police said Yue Fan Chau had allegedly arranged the deal prior to the baby's birth and had even arranged for the officer's name to appear on the birth certificate. Chau was arrested after she met the undercover detective outside New York Downtown Hospital, where the detective gave her a $20,000 check and $5,000 cash, and she handed the cop a numbered card that would have allowed him to pick up the baby.

Chau was charged with child abandonment, endangering the welfare of a child, tampering with public records and falsifying business records. Prosecutors said Chau told the police officer she did not want any further contact with him or the baby, and that she was forced to sell the child after her boyfriend returned to China leaving her alone and in need of cash.

Chau could face up to seven years in prison, if convicted.

'Rampager' Dies En Route To Hospital

A delusional man died in custody on October 3, en route to a local hospital after he went on a rampage, broke into a real estate office and beat an employee with a trash can, police said.

According to police, at about 10 a.m. passersby saw Tom Kennedy, 40, running around Corona and asking for help. They said they thought Kennedy had been doing drugs shortly before he went into the Parkway Realty offices on 108th Street. Once inside the office Kennedy kicked down doors and grabbed a trash can, striking Juan Cuadrado, 67, in the face, while screaming at employees, "You got to help me! There's somebody trying to shoot me!" a Parkway secretary said.

Cuadrado told police he tried to quiet Kennedy telling him, "There's nobody out there looking for you." When he told Kennedy he couldn't hide in the office, Kennedy grabbed the trash can and hit Cuadrado in the head. Cuadrado shook off the attack long enough to get other employees and himself out of the office. He then locked Kennedy inside and called 911.

The police arrived moments later and waited for an ambulance to arrive before entering the office. Kennedy, who was trashing the office when police and the ambulance crew entered, was cuffed on his wrists and bound by his legs with Velcro strips and placed in the ambulance, police said.

Kennedy died en route to Elmhurst Hospital Center. Police speculate he died of a drug overdose, based on eyewitnesses who claimed they saw him using drugs moments before he went into the rampage.

Mistrial In Shaken-Baby Case

A Queens Supreme Court Justice has declared a mistrial in the shaken-baby case of a Corona woman.

On September 27 Queens Supreme Court Justice Richard Buchter ruled on the case of Blanca Jaramillo, who is accused of injuring her 11-month-old son by shaking him.

Buchter issued the ruling after defense attorney Carmen Velasquez showed up late and unprepared. Buchter ordered Jaramillo to fire Velazquez when Buchter refused to postpone the proceedings.
