Mr. Met Voted Into Mascot Hall Of Fame

It's official! Mr. Met, the big-baseball headed mascot of the New York Mets, has made it to the Mascot Hall of Fame.

"Mr. Met is in," Hall of Fame Vice Chairman Chris Bruce said in announcing the honor on September 14.

Team officials said Mr. Met was "jumping with joy" when he received news of the honor. "We just hope it doesn't go to his head," officials said.

Team spokesperson Jay Horowitz said officials are thrilled at the news.

"He does so much charity work, he visits children in local hospitals. He does so much good. Kids and adults love him," Horowitz said.

The Hall of Fame executive committee decided that Mr. Met would share the honor of admission with the San Antonio Coyote, who scored just a hair more votes than the Queens mascot.

Team officials said they would announce plans for a Shea Stadium ceremony where Mr. Met would receive a Golden Silly String Award from the committee.

Mr. Met and the Coyote join the Phillie Phanatic, Phoenix Sun Gorilla and the Famous Chicken in the Mascot Hall of Fame.
