Neighborhood dignitaries hosted a fundraiser for Peter F. Vallone Jr. at Zodiac Restaurant in Astoria, drawing a crowd of more than 150 people to celebrate his ongoing commitment to his community. The event, organized by George Delis, Jack Brucculeri, George Alexiou, John Ciafone and Joe Di Pietro, among others, was an opportunity for people from all political backgrounds to come together and support the aspiring career of a promising public servant.
"I looked at the invitations and wasn't sure if it was a host list or a ballot from the 2001 election," joked Vallone. "I'm glad to have so much support from everyone in our neighborhood. I'm going to continue to do my best for the people of Astoria."
Many local officials and community leaders attended the event, including Former City Council Speaker Peter Vallone Sr., state Senator George Onorato, Vallone Jr.'s brother, Paul Vallone, Community Board 1 Chairman Vinicio Donato, 114th Precinct Community Council President Ann Bruno, Astoria Performing Arts Center Director Taryn Drondowski, Tony Argento and George Stamatiades. More than $15,000 was raised.

After a dinner at Zodiac, many guests took the microphone to congratulate Vallone and wish him the best in his career. Richard Aguayo, the owner of El Olivo, a restaurant on 31st Street, offered to host another fundraiser at another point in the near future.
"My son is as smart and hard working as they come, and we must do everything we can to make sure he stays fighting on behalf of New Yorkers," Vallone Sr. said. "Peter is able to get thing done, and he will be great for the people of Queens and New York City." Delis said the fundraiser was a huge success. He has several more such events scheduled during upcoming weeks, including one at the Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden on October 2. For more information, call 718-274-0007.
