Time Warner NY-NJ Debuts International Calling Plan
Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC) has introduced a new service for its residential customers in the New York and New Jersey division: a flat rate, international calling plan that provides for international calling to about 100 countries, representing more than 80 percent of the world's population.
International OnePrice™ is Time Warner Cable's new residential phone product that was launched in August to customers in New York City and San Antonio, Texas. Time Warner Cable expects to roll out the new product to most of its service areas across 33 states during the next six to nine months.
"We expect that International OnePrice™ will redefine international calling the way our Digital Phone product helped transform domestic long-distance calling here in the U.S.," Time Warner Cable of New York and New Jersey President Howard Szarfarc said. "Our introduction of Digital Phone in 2003 as a flat-priced, unlimited calling plan helped change the way Americans paid for telephone calls, replacing the then prevailing per-minute charges most long-distance callers were accustomed to paying."
For $19.95 per month, Time Warner Cable's Digital Phone customers can add International OnePrice™ to their existing phone service, when purchased as part of a bundle with video or high-speed data.
"International OnePrice™ should make our highly successful Digital Phone product even more successful by enabling us to offer unprecedented value and simplicity for international callers," Szarfarc added. "This incremental value for our customers will deepen interest in our bundled services and broaden our overall subscription relationships."
This new international calling plan provides international calling to anyone who regularly dials overseas to connect with friends and family members. Phone customers who call areas outside of the plan's coverage area will be charged for those calls on a per-minute basis. Calls to most mobile phones operated overseas are not included.
"The overwhelming majority of people who regularly make international calls will find this service to offer a tremendous savings," Time Warner Cable Vice President of Digital Phone Product Management Mike Jablon said. "It is a generous lifestyle offer, specifically designed to accommodate and exceed the needs of most single-family households. Customers will enjoy the convenience of a fixed monthly fee without having to be concerned about per-minute charges for each call they make."
Telecom New Zealand USA Ltd. will provision Time Warner Cable's International OnePrice™ plan. "Telecom New Zealand was selected as our strategic partner for Digital Phone international calling based on its capability, innovation, experience and business stability," Jablon added. "International OnePrice™ will be the first broad-based international calling plan introduced to U.S. phone customers."
