Man Shot At Broadway Elevated Station
BY LIZ GOFF

Hours after 19-year-old Jose Sierra was shot and stabbed to death on the mezzanine of the Broadway-31st Street station of the N and W elevated train line, the station remained closed to passengers while police criminal investigation teams gathered evidence.
Police continue to search for several men in connection with the September 3 murder of a young man at an Astoria subway station.

Jose Sierra, 19, of Brooklyn, was shot in the head and back and stabbed as he bolted from a southbound N train at the Broadway-31st Street station early Monday.

Police sources said investigators believe Sierra became involved in a dispute with four to five Hispanic men while still on the train. Sierra apparently tried to flee the altercation when the train pulled into the Broadway elevated station at about 1:15 a.m. on Monday, police sources said.

Eyewitnesses told police the group followed Sierra as he ran toward a staircase to the street, where one of the men shot the teen in the back of the head, the sources said.

One of the men fired off two rounds as the gravely wounded teen made his way down the stairs, striking Sierra twice in the back. Sierra continued toward the station token booth, where one of the men pulled a knife and stabbed the teen in the back, the sources said.

Sierra collapsed on the station mezzanine where he was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the suspects split into two groups when they reached the street. Several fled on foot along Broadway and the others took off along 31st Street.

Police immediately canvassed the area while NYPD helicopters scoured local streets in search of the suspects, authorities said.

Detectives at the 114th Precinct Squad are continuing to canvass the area, interviewing eyewitnesses and storeowners in an effort to track down the suspects, described as Hispanic males, 18 to 25 years old.

Anyone with information on the suspects is urged to call Detective Michael Gaine at the 114th Precinct Squad at 718- 626-9334 or the Crimestoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS. All information will be kept strictly confidential.

The Hotline is offering a $2,000 reward to anyone with information leading to the
