Tennis Fan Caught In Celeb Crush

A security guard attempting to calm fans seeking autographs from US Open superstar Rafael Nadal accidentally shoved a woman onto a court at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center on August 29.

Chris Widmaier, spokesperson for the United States Tennis Association (USTA) said the incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. when Nadal, seeded No. 2 at the US Open, had just beaten Australian Alun Jones at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadows- Corona Park.

Fans erupted in a frenzy after the match, rushing Nadal as he tried to make his way from an on-court press conference to a locker room, Widmaier said.

When the fans rushed Nadal as he stopped to sign autographs, a security guard stepped over a 3-foot wall to calm the crowd, shoving the woman onto the court. The woman was helped to her feet by other security guards, authorities said.

The unidentified woman, who refused medical attention, was escorted with her party from the tennis center by security guards, authorities said.

A 38-year-old Sunnyside woman landed behind bars on August 19 after security personnel at a Queens Boulevard Target store caught her stealing clothing and a DVD player, police said.

Cops said security guards at the store at 88-01 Queens Blvd. spotted Clara Mora at about 5:10 p.m. removing price tags, stepping into garments and attempting to leave the store.

When the guards detained Mora at the store entrance they also recovered a DVD player she was attempting to steal, police said.

The guards called 911 and police arrested Mora a short while later, charging her with multiple counts of petit larceny and stolen property.
