Mr. Met is rounding third in a battle to score a trophy of his own- and he needs fans' help to clinch the title.

The big-headed baseball mascot of Queens' Boys of Summer was recently nominated for a spot in the Mascot Hall of Fame.

The Web-based group that honors "crazy characters and what they bring to sports" has entered Mr. Met to its online ballot. Now it's up to the loyal fans to help Mr. Met bring the title home to Queens. Fans can vote for Mr. Met once each day through September 6 at www.mascothalloffame.com.

A Mets spokesperson said Mr. Met was "on top of the world" after learning he was nominated for the honor.

"He's really wound up these days, with the pennant race and all," the spokesperson said. "This nomination is a thrilling part [of] an already amazin' season."

If Mr. Met is inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame, representatives of the hall will visit Shea Stadium to present him with the Golden Silly String Award- a golden can of Silly String mounted on a marble base.

The team spokesperson said the Amazin's, from David Wright to Willie Randolph, are batting for Mr. Met to bring the trophy home. "They love the little guy," the spokesperson said.
