Marvelettes Delight In CALDC Waterfront Concert Series
Photo Vinny DuPre

The Marvelettes brought area resident Richard Poultney on stage to join their performance of a popular favorite.
The Marvelettes appeared as the penultimate performing group in the 25th anniversary of the Central Astoria Local Development Coalition (CALDC) Waterfront Concert Series 2007 on August 2. The female vocal group proved to be superb entertainers, engaging the audience to sing and dance along to "Please, Mr. Postman", "Don't Mess with Bill" and "Beechwood 4-5789".

The final performance of the series will be held on August 9 at 7:30 p.m. The Glenn Miller Orchestra, the most sought-after big band in the world, will showcase the music of the big band era of the 1930s and '40s. Classics such as "Moonlight Serenade", "Chattanooga Choo Choo" and "Tuxedo Junction" will bring the legendary sweet sound of swing to the park.

There is no admission fee or music charge; just bring a chair or blanket, a few friends and relax and enjoy the show. The Waterfront Concert Series of 2007 will prove to be the biggest and best ever seen on the Astoria Park waterfront.

The Waterfront Concert Series, presented by the Central Astoria Local Development Coalition, is made possible through funding provided by City Councilmember Peter Vallone Jr., the city Department of Cultural Affairs and the following sponsors: the New York Power Authority, NRG, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Astoria Energy Foundation, Time Warner Cable, Astoria Federal Savings Bank, Doral Bank, Kaufman Astoria Studios, North Fork Bank, Thomas M. Quinn & Sons, Partnership for Parks and Steinway & Sons Piano.
