NYPA Wins Apex 2007 Award Of Excellence Staff members of the New York Power Authority (NYPA) have earned a 2007 APEX Award for Publications Excellence for graphic arts materials related to the Power Authority's 75th anniversary celebration in 2006. This is the 10th APEX award NYPA has earned since 1999. For the past 19 years APEX, an international competition for communications professionals, has recognized outstanding publications, from newsletters and magazines to annual reports, brochures and Web sites. Out of more than 300 entries in the category of Special Purpose Campaigns, Programs and Plans, NYPA earned one of just 15 Awards of Excellence. "The awards were based on excellence in graphic design, quality of editorial content and the success of the entry in conveying the message and achieving overall communications effectiveness," the APEX 2007 judges said. Marsha Camera, NYPA graphic communications manager, along with a graphic communications team comprised of Russell Brod, contractor, Anne Dykstra, photographer, Harrison Getz, contractor, Brenda Heller, project coordinator, Alice Kenny, graphic communication specialist and Angela McRae, contractor, produced wall-sized banners, stationery, posters, displays and a 75th anniversary edition of NYPA's history. Also sharing in recognition for the special 75th anniversary edition of the Power Authority's history are authors, Stephen Shoenholz, deputy vice president, and Ira Fine, print communications manager. NYPA uses no tax money or state credit. It finances its operations through the sale of bonds and revenues earned in large part through sales of electricity. NYPA is a leader in promoting energy efficiency, new energy technologies and electric transportation initiatives. It is the nation's largest state-owned electric utility, with 18 generating facilities in various parts of the state and more than 1,400 circuit miles of transmission lines.
