Peralta Honors Mets Star Jose Reyes

Jose Reyes receives legislative resolution from Assemblyman Jose R. Peralta who is joined by Councilman Hiram Monserrate, Maria Rojas, and District Leaders Daniel Dromm and Dorothy Phelan.
Assemblymember Jose Peralta (DJackson Heights), led the Queens Assembly delegation in honoring Mets infielder Jose Reyes Friday, July 27, at Shea Stadium. Reyes, like Peralta, of Dominican descent, became the first player in the history of Major League Baseball to have 122 or more runs, 194 or more hits, 19 or more home runs and 64 or more stolen bases in a single season. On June 19, the Assembly paused in its deliberation to honor Reyes for his having achieved this distinction.

A player on the Mets' roster since 2003, Reyes was born in Villa Gonzales, Dominican Republic and attended Liceo Delia Reyes H.S. In 2006, he led Major League Baseball with 17 triples and 64 stolen bases. He ranked fourth in the National League with 122 runs, sixth with 647 at-bats, eighth in hits, with 194, and ninth in multi-hit games. At Shea Stadium, he had 104 hits, a new club record. These and his other accomplishments made him one of the best players of the 2006 season.

A gifted athlete, Reyes has become a role model in Major League Baseball. His character and achievements have made him an example and inspiration to all who know him.
