CALDC Waterfront Concert Series Continues
The Cab Calloway Orchestra under the direction of Calloway's grandson, Calloway Brooks, appeared in Astoria Park on Thursday, July 19 at 7:30 p.m. Brooks and the Cab Calloway Orchestra entertained and ignited the audience with their swing melodies. The crowd went wild with the last, and long-awaited song, "Minnie the Moocher". Once again Steinway and Sons Piano generously provided the orchestra with one of their instruments for the evening.
The last performance of the series, on August 9, will feature the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Everyone is invited to Astoria Park on the Astoria Park Lawn, Shore Boulevard between the Hell Gate Bridge and the Astoria Pool, to enjoy some great music. There's no admission fee, no music charge. Just bring your family and friends, along with a chair or blanket, and sit back, relax and enjoy. The Waterfront Concert Series, presented by CALDC, is made possible through funding provided by City Councilmember Peter Vallone Jr. through the city Department of Cultural Affairs and the following corporate sponsors: New York Power Authority, NRG, The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, Astoria Energy Foundation, Time Warner Cable, Astoria Federal Savings Bank, Doral Bank, Kaufman Astoria Studios, North Fork Bank, Thomas M. Quinn & Sons, Partnership for Parks and Steinway and Sons Piano.
