CALDC Waterfront Concert Series Continues

The Central Astoria Local Development Coalition's (CALDC) Waterfront Concert Series is in full swing. The 25th anniversary celebration of the concerts continued with The Elsbeary Hobbs Drifters on Thursday, July 12 at 7:30 p.m. in Astoria Park. The crowd cheered when the Elsbeary Hobbs Drifters took the stage, and what a show they put on, going out in the audience and turning the Astoria Park Great Lawn into a dance floor. They performed some of the greatest hits from the '50s, including "There Goes My Baby", "Under The Boardwalk" and "The Twist", just to name a few.

The Cab Calloway Orchestra under the direction of Calloway's grandson, Calloway Brooks, appeared in Astoria Park on Thursday, July 19 at 7:30 p.m. Brooks and the Cab Calloway Orchestra entertained and ignited the audience with their swing melodies. The crowd went wild with the last, and long-awaited song, "Minnie the Moocher".

Once again Steinway and Sons Piano generously provided the orchestra with one of their instruments for the evening.

The Cab Calloway Orchestra, directed by Calloway's grandson, Calloway Brooks, performed at the CALDC Waterfront Concert on July 19.

The series continues on Thursday, August 2 at 7:30 p.m., when the Marvelettes perform some of the bestselling hits of the '60s, including "Please, Mr. Postman", "Don't Mess With Bill" and "Beechwood 4-5789".

The last performance of the series, on August 9, will feature the Glenn Miller Orchestra.

Everyone is invited to Astoria Park on the Astoria Park Lawn, Shore Boulevard between the Hell Gate Bridge and the Astoria Pool, to enjoy some great music. There's no admission fee, no music charge. Just bring your family and friends, along with a chair or blanket, and sit back, relax and enjoy.
