Borough-Wide Blotter Son Slays Mom Queens detectives are trying to determine the reason for a family argument that led to the July 28 death of a 61-year-old woman inside her Fresh Meadows apartment. Cops responding to a 911 call at about 11:15 p.m. found the victim's husband locked outside the family's sixth-floor apartment at 65-82 160th St., police said. Police found Maria Fischman dead inside the apartment, the victim of a brutal beating she suffered at the hands of her 26-year-old son. Police recovered a bloody barbell near the body. The son was taken to New York Hospital of Queens with chest pains, where he was arrested for the murder. 110th Precinct Gunman Nabbed Cops on routine patrol out of the 110th Precinct in Elmhurst nabbed a 19-year-old gunman on July 25. Police said Ramal Curtis accosted two 15-yearold students on their way to Newtown H.S. and brandished a gun as he demanded their cash and property. The teens ran and flagged down a passing patrol car. Cops caught up with Curtis on 52nd Avenue, where they recovered a loaded .9-mm pistol that had been tossed aside by the suspect. Curtis was charged with robbery and criminal possession of a weapon. 115th Precinct Second Youth Nabbed In Drano Toss Cops in Jackson Heights arrested a second youth on July 24 in connection with an assault inside a local playground. Police said the 13-year-old is the second youth charged with tossing soda bottles filled with Drano and water- a combustible combination- into a crowd of infants, children and women inside the Junction Playground at 34th Avenue and Junction Boulevard on July 21. Two infants, ages 4 and 6 months, and two women were burned when the bottles exploded on impact, showering the crowd inside the playground, police said. Detectives at the 115th Precinct Squad are searching for several other suspects in the incident. The 13-year-old and another 12-year-old boy are facing assault and weapons charges. |
