Taipei Youth Sports Group At QCC Arts Center Aug. 4

The Taipei Youth Folk Sports Group will be making a rare appearance in the United States at the Queensborough Performing Arts Center, 222-05 56th Ave., Bayside, on Saturday, Aug. 4 at 6 p.m.

The performers, all elementary and junior high school students from Taiwan, will demonstrate athletic feats as they present a program of traditional Chinese sports and games entwined with folk and dance, pop music, and contemporary dance. The performance is made possible by Chinese Cultural Programs, Inc. a Manhattan/Long Island-based not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting multi-ethnic Asian cultural awareness in the metropolitan area.

The Taipei Youth Folk Sports Group has performed throughout Asia, Africa, Australia, Europe and the U.S. at international athletic meetings, academic conferences and folk festivals. They have taught their audiences to appreciate age-old Chinese sports such as shuttlecock kicking, diabolo spinning, rope skipping, kite flying, dragon and lion dances and top spinning

Tickets for the performance are $10 and $50 (a VIP supporter), and can be purchased at three locations: Starside Drugs and Surgicals, 136-85 Roosevelt Ave., Flushing, 718.358.8801 and 133-24A 41st Ave., 718.961.2931, and The Culture Center of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, 41-61 Kissena Blvd., 718.886.7770.
