St. Michael's Cemetery Plans 9/11 Memorial Service
St. Michael's Cemetery, 72-02 Astoria Blvd., East Elmhurst, will hold its annual memorial service

for New York City firefighters and police officers lost in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on September 8 at 1 p.m. This year, a permanent monument will be dedicated to officers of the New York City Police Department who died in the attack.

Ken Honig, Tom Hoey and other members of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department will also be present and have invited active members of the PAPD to attend. Retired New York City Fire Department Deputy Chief Alexander Santora and his wife, Maureen, will lead FDNY firefighters and their families at the service. Their only son, Christopher Santora, was the youngest FDNY firefighter to die in the 9/11 attacks.

Congressmember Joseph Crowley will speak in memory and on behalf of his cousin, FDNY Battalion Chief John Moran, who also died at the World Trade Center on 9/11. Crowley has led efforts to create and dedicate the memorial to New York City Police Department officers at St, Michael's Cemetery, acting as liaison with the NYPD and making a personal donation to the memorial.

St. Michael's cemetery Director of Community Affairs Ed Horn is seeking input, ideas and recommendations to ensure that this year's service will continue to honor the fallen and their families. Call or write Horn at St. Michael's Cemetery, 72-02 Astoria Blvd., East Elmhurst, 718-278-3240. A pictorial presentation will be offered at the conclusion of the service, so photographs and other memorabilia will be included.

Remembering the heroism of those who gave their lives to save others will remain a tradition for St. Michael's. Next year, thanks to the Santora family, a memorial to First Responders will be dedicated.

St. Michael's hopes for the presence and participation of all on September 8 at 1 p.m. For more information, contact Ed Horn, director of community affairs, at St. Michael's Cemetery, 72-02 Astoria Blvd., East Elmhurst, 718-278-3240.
