The Platters Appear In Astoria Park

The Platters perform one of their hits from the 1950s.
The Central Astoria Local Development Coalition (CALDC) Waterfront Concert Series is in full swing. The 25th anniversary celebration continued with the Platters, on Thursday, July 5 at 7:30 p.m. The Platters formed in the early '50s and quickly became one of the top vocal groups of that time. They performed some of their greatest hits, such as "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes", "My Prayer", "The Great Pretender" and "Twilight Time".

The Waterfront Concert Series continues Thursday, July 12 with another great '50s group, the Elsbeary Hobbs Drifters. "Under The Boardwalk", "There Goes My Baby" and "The Twist" are some of the hits by the Drifters expected to be heard that night.

Everyone is invited to Astoria Park on the Astoria Park Lawn, Shore Boulevard between the Hell Gate Bridge and the pool, to enjoy some great music. There's no admission fee, no music charge. Just bring your family and friends, along with a chair or blanket and sit back, relax and enjoy.

The Waterfront Concert Series will continue every Thursday night with some of the best known artists in the business. All performances begin at 7:30 p.m. on July 19, the Cab Calloway Orchestra will be directed by Cab's grandson, Calloway Brooks, July 26 Cornell Gunter's Coasters, perform, on August 2 - the Marvelettes and on August 9 on the Glenn Miller Orchestra.
