Prostitution, Liquor Stings Conducted In 114th Precinct

Under the direct supervision of 114th Police Precinct Commanding Officer Inspector Brian McCarthy, on Friday, June 1 an operation was conducted in prostitution-prone locations utilizing undercover trained officers. Six offenders were apprehended. Officials commented that the operation is a prime example of the 114th Precinct's efforts to better the quality of life for the Astoria community.

Eight adults were observed selling alcohol to a minor and charged with unlawfully dealing with a child and prohibited sale of an alcoholic beverage on Saturday, June 2. They were: a 20-year-old Asian male at 48-02 30th Ave., a 47-year-old Asian male at 51-02 31st Ave., a 37-year-old Hispanic female at 43-01 31st Ave., a 41-year-old Hispanic male at 37-01 31st Ave., a 56-year-old Hispanic female at 42-07 31st Ave., a 48-year-old Hispanic male at 33-02 31st Ave., a 20-year-old Asian male at 34-16 31st Ave., and a 48-year-old male at 33-18 31st Ave.

Thirty-two people, nine Hispanic females and 23 Hispanic males ranging from 13 to 22 years of age, were charged with criminal trespass after they were found in a vacant house at 23-03 31st Ave. without permission on Tuesday, May 29. One 14-year-old Hispanic female was also charged with possession of a graffiti instrument.

Also on May 29, a 15-year-old black female was charged with assault, harassment and disorderly conduct after she punched a victim in the nose at Ditmars and Shore Boulevards. Three more black females, 15, 18 and 20 years old, were charged with assault, harassment and disorderly conduct after they repeatedly punched a victim in the face and nose a few blocks away from the first incident, at 20th Avenue and Shore Boulevard.

On May 28, an 18-year-old black male was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal mischief; the criminal possession of a weapon charge for possessing a defaced firearm, and the criminal mischief charge for throwing a victim's computer hard drive into a tub of water, causing the hard drive to become defective. The incident took place at 35-35 21st St.

Tuesday, May 29:

+ A 32-year-old black female was arrested at the 114th Precinct station house at 34-16 Astoria Blvd. and charged with criminal possession of a weapon, making a false report and acting in a manner injurious to a child after a defaced gun in her apartment was found by her three-year-old child and the 32-year-old falsely claimed her older son had threatened her with it.

+ A 43-year-old Hispanic male, the subject of a search warrant, was arrested without incident at 35-53 12th St. and charged with criminal use of drug paraphernalia, possession/selling unstamped cigarettes, evading payment of cigarette tax and unlawful possession of marijuana

+ A 21-year-old Hispanic male was charged with obstructing governmental administration and disorderly conduct when he attempted to prevent officers from arresting another person while executing a search warrant at 12-15 36th Ave.

+ Two Hispanic males 16 and 18 years old and a 17-year-old white male were charged with criminal possession of marijuana after they were observed smoking marijuana in public at 45-11 31st Ave.

+ A 26-year-old Asian male was charged with assault, acting in a manner injurious to a child and harassment after he attempted to choke a victim at 27-27 12th St.

+ A 43-year-old white male was charged with menacing and harassment after he threw a glass bottle at a victim and threatened to hit the victim with a metal stick. The incident took place at 21- 53 31st St.

Thursday, May 31:

+ A 47-year-old Hispanic male, the subject of a search warrant, was charged with possession/selling unstamped cigarettes and evading payment of cigarette tax after he was found to be selling untaxed cigarettes at 29-23 Astoria Blvd.

+ A 41-year-old white male was charged with menacing, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, harassment and disorderly conduct after he punched a victim in the face and head and threatened him with a bat at Steinway Street and 23rd Avenue.

Friday, June 1:

+ A 21-year-old Asian male was charged with criminal possession of marijuana after he was observed with marijuana in public at 51st Street and Northern Boulevard.

+ A 16-year-old Hispanic male was charged with criminal possession of marijuana after he was observed smoking marijuana in public at 25th Avenue and 47th Street.

+ An 18-year-old male observed in a drug deal at 34-27 34th St. entered a vehicle and left the scene, running a red light. The vehicle was stopped and the 18-year-old and a 17-year-old white male and a 20-year-old Hispanic male were found in possession of marijuana and cocaine. The 18-year-old attempted to flee but was apprehended. All three were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal sale of marijuana, unlawful possession of marijuana, obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest.

+ A 57-year-old white male was charged with obstructing governmental administration after he approached a victim at 30-08 31st St., grabbed the victim by the shirt and prevented the victim from entering a vehicle.

+ A 36-year-old Hispanic male was charged with criminal possession of marijuana after he was observed smoking marijuana in public at 35- 35 35 St.

+ A 26-year-old Hispanic male was charged with assault and harassment at the 114th Precinct station house at 34-16 Astoria Blvd. after he kicked a victim in the posterior during a verbal dispute.

+ A 17-year-old Hispanic female was charged with criminal possession of marijuana after she was found in possession of marijuana in public at 37th Avenue and 9th Street.

+ A 26-year-old white male was observed drinking in public at 34th Street and 28th Avenue and upon further investigation, was found to be wanted on an active warrant. He was charged with having an open container of an alcoholic beverage in public.

+ A 52-year-old Hispanic male was charged with possession of burglar's tools, having an open container of an alcoholic beverage in public and unlawful possession of marijuana after he was observed drinking beer in public at 21-63 Shore Blvd., was found in possession of marijuana and was wanted on an active warrant.
