American Airlines To Begin Nonstop Minneapolis Flights American Airlines, strengthening its already robust schedule of domestic and international flights from New York, will begin nonstop service between La Guardia Airport and Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport starting this September. In addition, because of strong demand on flights between John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, American will increase the number of flights and the size of the jets currently flown on that route beginning in September. Between La Guardia and Minneapolis/St. Paul, American will offer three daily round-trip flights starting September 5, conveniently timed for early morning, midday and early evening departures. The airline will use Boeing MD80 aircraft on the route configured with 16 First-Class seats and 120 seats in the Main Cabin. "Many of our customers asked for convenient nonstop service between New York and Minneapolis/St. Paul, so we are delighted to add it to our schedule," Chuck Imhof, American Vice President of Passenger Sales- Greater New York, said. "We are intent on giving New York area travelers- and indeed customers everywhere- what they value. Business travelers in particular will appreciate that they can fly to Minneapolis/St. Paul or New York, put in a full day's work, and still return home that evening." Between JFK and Chicago O'Hare, effective September 5, American will begin flying the route twice daily using 136-seat MD80 aircraft, while American Eagle will reduce its JFK-Chicago O'Hare schedule to one daily flight. The net effect will be one additional flight, for a total of three flights daily- two operated with MD80s- and 222 additional seats, each way, in the JFK-Chicago O'Hare market. American offers more flights from New York to Chicago O'Hare than any other airline. American and American Eagle now operate 40 daily New York flights to O'Hare: 19 from La Guardia, 10 from White Plains/Westchester County, six from Newark, three from Newburgh/Stewart, and the two American Eagle fights from JFK noted above. From JFK, American and American Eagle combined currently operate service to nearly 40 destinations with more than 90 flights a day. Minneapolis/St. Paul will be the 26th destination served nonstop by American and its regional affiliate, American Eagle, from La Guardia Airport. When the new service starts this September, the airlines combined will operate a total of nearly 130 daily departures out of La Guardia. The new nonstop flights from La Guardia to Minneapolis/St. Paul, along with the larger aircraft between JFK and Chicago, join a list of other schedule enhancements at New York that have already been implemented or will start later this year. Last month, American added new service or additional flights from New York to Atlanta and Raleigh/Durham, N.C., while its regional affiliate, American Eagle, began nonstop service to Cincinnati. This summer, American will add additional flights from New York to Port-au-Prince, Haiti; Caracas, Venezuela; and San Francisco. In September, American will begin new nonstop service from New York to Las Vegas, while American Eagle starts nonstop service to Louisville, Kentucky. And coming this November, American will begin nonstop service to St. Kitts and Nevis, as well as St. Lucia. American's enhanced services at New York extend to its facilities as well. Earlier this month, American moved its international service at JFK into Concourse B of its new $1.3 billion terminal- the newest and largest terminal at JFK. With the opening of Concourse B, American increases its number of gates in the new facility from 18 to 28. Additionally, in June, American will unveil an 11,200-square-foot Admirals Club® lounge and a 7,000-square-foot Flagship Lounge, both located in Concourse B.
