Area Students React To 'An Inconvenient Truth'

Students from six area junior high and intermediate schools went to the Museum of the Moving Image to see the movie "An Inconvenient Truth" recently as guests of the United Community Civic Association (UCCA) and its president, Rose Marie Poveromo. The students, from I.S. 10, Astoria, I.S. 126. I.S. 141, I.S. 204 and I.S. 235, Long Island City and I.S. 230, Jackson Heights, expressed their appreciation and noted the impact the film, which discusses the possible fate of the planet if global warming continues unchecked, had on their attitudes toward the world and the future.

"I've learned a lot, including how to stop global warming, step by step...May this one documentary save this world," Lindy Chiu wrote.

"We were brought to the fact that the Earth's congestion is changing and we are all grateful to you for letting us realize that."- Chelsea Suarez

"Viewing the motion picture was instrumental in my awareness of how global warming is such a vital problem to the world and people..." - Katherine Iturraldo

"I explained to my father what could possibly happen in 50-70 years. I will try my best to gather people and try to either slow down or even stop global warming."- Paul M, Class 721, I.S. 141.

Community Superintendent, District 30 and Local Instructional Superintendent Dr. Philip Composto also thanked Poveromo and UCCA for giving the students an opportunity to learn about global warming. "...Your efforts to educate our youngsters on global warming are valued," he concluded.
