Evolution Is New High-End Astoria Sports Club

Treadmills at Evolution feature monitor screens and controls for individual settings.
"We wanted to bring a high-end sports and health club to 35th Avenue," Anthony Maniscalco, one of the three owners of Evolution Sports Club said. Anthony Maniscalco and his co-owners, Gus Prentzas and Nicholas Sakatis have succeeded admirably in their ambition. Evolution, at 37-11 35th Ave., occupying the second-floor space over Pizzeria Uno, holds a 15,000 pound-plus free weight section, treadmills, cycles, steppers, a cardio theater with individual monitors, hammer strength, ellipticals, a spinning room, boxing with heavy bags and speed bags and full-service locker rooms. A juice bar with wireless Internet access is part of the premises, as are satellite radio and a sauna and steam room.

Classes in six different types of yoga, pilates and urban rebounding. Cardio kickboxing, hip hop and abs classes are also offered and personal training and nutritional counseling are available as well. All classes are included in a membership. For the convenience of its members, Evolution is open 24 hours a day.

"We offer the best equipment in the area, beautiful locker rooms, sauna, steam and all the classes anyone could need," Maniscalco said. He and his partners proudly offer "the new evolution of health and fitness at an amazing health club for an amazing price" at Evolution.
