Neighborhood Briefs Phony Inspectors Prey On Senior In Elmhurst

Detectives at the 110th Police Precinct are seeking help from the public to identify and locate two men who posed as city water inspectors and robbed an 84-yearold Elmhurst resident on March 16.

Police officials last week released surveillance photos of two men, described as white or Hispanic, about 25-years-old, dressed in dark clothing who knocked on the door of the 84-year-old victim's home, and identified themselves as water inspectors.

The victim, who did not ask for photo identification from the pair, got into a discussion with one of the men while his accomplice entered the residence, stealing jewelry and an undisclosed amount of cash. The victim was not injured during the robbery, police said.

Anyone with information on the suspects is urged to call the CRIMESTOPPERS Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS. The Hotline is offering a $2,000 reward to anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.

Just remember to look at identification before letting any inspector from any agency or any utility enter your residence.- Liz Goff
