Buckle Up For Safety
To The Editor:
I was shocked and sadden[ed], as many of us were, after reading of Gov. Jon Corzine's near fatal accident. But what was most troubling was that it was reported he was not wearing his seat belt.
Now that's especially sad when you take into account that New Jersey spends thousands of dollars a year to promote their seat belt law and that seat belts do save lives. Now I can attest to that. I've been in seven accidents and six as a passenger in the last thirty years and only once did I not have a seat belt on. Now that's where I was in an accident in Queens and suffer[ed] a broken nose, head injury and whiplash after hitting the windshield. Therefore, after that I never forgot to buckle up.
We all hope and pray for Governor Corzine and his family and that he makes a speedy recovery and has learn[ed] the importance of seat belts.
I also hope the many that have read what has happen[ed] to the governor think about their seat belts, even before they start their cars. For remember, seat belts are in our cars for a reason and that is to protect us.
