Borough-Wide Blotter 110th Precinct Student Charged In Book-Bag Swipe A student at the High School of Arts & Business in Corona was charged last week with stealing his teacher's book bag, which contained cash, debit cards and clothing, authorities said. Milhir Nazir, 18, was arrested at about 7 p.m. on March 21, after the victim spotted him snatching the bag from beneath a chair in a classroom at the school, police said. Police said the teacher saw Nazir leave the classroom with the bag and reported the incident to the school assistant principal, who called 911. Nazir was charged with grand larceny and petit larceny. 111th Precinct Charged In Robbery Of Union Head's Home A Whitestone man accused of trying to burglarize the home of Patrolmen's Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch was indicted last week. Court records state Anthony Joseph Genovese, 40, was indicted on five charges, including attempted burglary and possession of burglar tools. Genovese allegedly tried to gain entrance to Lynch's home in January by telling Lynch's wife he needed to use a phone. Genovese then asked the woman for cash, stating his wife was in labor in their car. When he was denied entrance to the home, Genovese allegedly gave Lynch's wife several other reasons why he needed the cash. Genovese fled the scene when Lynch's dog ran to the door. He was caught moments later by Lynch, who raced home when he received a call from his wife about a strange man at their door. Cops who arrested Genovese discovered he was driving a stolen car in which he had stashed pliers, a hammer and screwdrivers. 112th Precinct Co-Op Manager Embezzles $163K The former property manager at a Corona co-op was charged last week with swiping $163,000 in funds between March 2004 and March 2006, authorities said. Queens prosecutors charged Michael Burak, 63, with second-degree grand larceny, criminal possession of a forged instrument and falsifying business records. Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said in a prepared statement that Burak, while managing property at the Forest Hills Chateau Co-Op, allegedly filed a phony bank resolution naming him co-op president, giving him control of coop funds. Burak used his new title to establish a fake corporation, "The Burak Organization", where he deposited funds he stole from the co-op from March 25, 2004 through March 2006, Brown said. In his position as building manager at the co-op, at 58-03 Calloway St., Burak was responsible for all repairs and general maintenance, and for collecting shareholder maintenance and rent fees, Brown said. The embezzlement was uncovered during an annual internal audit of finances conducted by an attorney representing the co-op board. The yearly tax audit showed irregularities in co-op books that led investigators to Burak, Brown said. Burak, who left the co-op to start his own real estate business, surrendered to detectives of the District Attorney's Squad on March 22. Burak, who was released without bail at his arraignment at Kew Gardens Criminal Court, could face up to 15 years in prison, if convicted. 115th Precinct Hunt Gunman Queens detectives are seeking help from the public to identify and locate gunman who shot and killed a Corona man outside a local barbershop on March 28.
