Faculty at the Evangel Christian School in Dutch Kills hosted an academic fair on March 15. Students from Pre-K to 12th grade showed off their skills in Social Studies and world issues.
"Each grade presented material related to their own curriculum," said Principal Marilyn Johannsen. "The students picked an area of their interest and developed it for presentation."
Pre-K students showed off models of various transportation vehicles, while Kindergarten students gave a visual presentation on occupations, Johannsen said.
Other presentations included displays of the world's food, costumes and cultures, famous people of New York state and how they impacted the Empire State, in-depth reports on the Vietnam War and the Holocaust, and overviews of the entire fair by the school's high school-grade students.
Middle-grade and high school students focused their efforts on a wide assortment of topics, including language, math studies, sports and forensic studies.
Johannsen said the students chose their own topics, gathered information and made displays to enter in the presentations. One student who chose architecture as a topic built his own office building, Johannsen said.

More than 800 parents, family, friends and faculty members toured the displays on the evening of the fair. On the following day, students visited classrooms throughout the school to view presentations made by their fellows in other grades.
"The annual event offers students an opportunity to show off study and visual interpretation skills in areas of their choice," Johannsen said. "It gives them a chance to express their interests and talents."- Liz Goff
